Saint-Nectaire is a scenic village in the Massif du Sancy, in the heart of the Auvergne, about 30 km south of Clermont-Ferrand.
Saint-Nectaire exists of 2 part: there is Saint-Nectaire Le Haut, the ancient village with the beautiful Romanesque church and Saint-Nectaire Le Bas, the origin of the thermal baths. In this part of the village you will also find the swimmingpool/welness, the Parc Aventure and the Grottes de Cornadore (first thermal baths from the Romain period).
The church of Saint-Nectaire dates from the 12th century and is one of the most beautiful of the 5 romanesque churches of the Auvergne.
A part of this magnificent cultural heritage, lets not forget about the Saint-Nectaire cheese, which is one of the most important AOP-classified cheeses of this area. Definitely worth tasting!
In the village of Saint-Nectaire there is also many places to visit and activities: the ancient Roman baths, the Fontaines Pétrifiantes and the cheese farm la Ferme Bellonte. Wandering around in the Parc du Dolmen or near the Marais Salé with its environment maritime thanks to the saltwater sources.

The Auvergne

The Auvergne is located in the south-central of France and is without a doubt one of the most beautiful areas of this country, with unspoilt nature and clean air! You will be impressed by the beautiful flora and fauna, the volcanoes, the lakes, the mountains and the forests. With its many natural sources (including those of Volvic), nearly one hundred volcanoes and more than 20,000 kilometres of water flow, the Auvergne is one of the largest and best preserved natural areas of Europe.
The Parc Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne in the department of Puy-de-Dôme is the largest regional parc of Europe. The Chaines des Puys with the Puy de Dôme volcano as the highest point (1465 m) and the Massif du Sancy are part of this parc. From Saint-Nectaire, these beautiful areas are easy to explore. Saint-Nectaire is located in the Massif du Sancy in the heart of Auvergne. In this area you will find mountains, beautiful (crater)lakes, the nature reserve La Vallée de Chaudefour, but also the beautiful traditional villages such as Besse-en-Chandese, Saint-Saturnin, Saint-Floret .....
The capital of the Puy-de-Dôme is Clermont-Ferrand, located at 30 km north of Saint-Nectaire. In addition to the wonderful nature and the romanesque heritage let’s not forget the culinary specialities of this area. The truffade, the fondue au Saint-Nectaire, the potée Auvergnate, the lentils, the Aligot. Of course, all those goodies will be accompanied with a delicious regional wine, the cote d’Auvergne ... And finally, a cheese plateau with the various regional AOP-cheeses (Saint-Nectaire, Cantal, Salers, Bleu d’Auvergne and Fourme d’Ambert).
The Auvergne is absolutely worth a visit. And where else to stay than at the Villa St Hubert?

Cultural visits

The Puy-de-Dome houses a treasure of cultural heritage; the beautiful Romanesque churches, including the one of Saint-Nectaire, will enchant you. With more than 250 buildings, the romanesque heritage in the Auvergne is one of the most important in Europe. Via the Route Romane you will drive along all places of interest.
The many picturesque villages in the mountains of the Massif du Sancy will captivate you by its houses with their characteristic roofs of black slate. In addition you will find other authentic and charming villages like Montpeyroux, Saint-Floret, Usson and Saint-Saturnin some of which are classified Un des plus beau Villages de France (one of the most beautiful villages of France).
The capital of the Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand, is definitely worth visiting as well. The beautiful cathedral Notre Dame d’Assomption is completely built of black lava rock. The two high, pointed towers are typical for this Cathedral. Did you know that Michelin is originally from Clermont-Ferrand? In the Michelin museum you can discover all of the history of Michelin. Of course, a day of shopping and walking through the winding (shopping) streets in the city centre, the central square Place Jaude is a must-do. Wandering around you will be impressed by the many nicely sculptered fountains in the city centre. After a day of discovery, why not end in one of the restaurants in Clermont-Ferrand, many of whom have a Michelin star .....
Apart from Clermont-Ferrand you will find, near Saint-Nectaire, other beautiful, interesting places such as Issoire, Le Puy-en-Velay (with the Notre Dame du Puy and the beautiful cloister) and Thiers (city of the knives).

The Place de Jaude, Clermont-Ferrand, PPuy-de-Dôme


There are many possibilities for the active visitor. Some examples are: walking, cycling, swimming and fishing in one of the many lakes, mountain climbing, canoeing and rafting, quad-riding, balloon flights. And yet: visiting markets and the typical French brocantes, or one of the lovely villages..... do we have to continue?
Also at 45 min from Saint-Nectaire you will find the Parc Vulcania: it is the largest interactive park about the fascinating world of volcanoes and geological sciences. Interesting and fun for young and old! Parc Vulcania is 10 km from Clermont-Ferrand, near the Puy-de-Dôme, a unique volcano (1465 m) which is on the Unesco heritage list. You can climb the Puy-de-Dôme on foot but there is also a train (Panoramique des Dômes) going upwards. On the top of the Puy-de-Dôme there is hiking trails, an information centre, restaurants and for those who dare: jump with a paraglider into the air and see the spectacular landscape with numerous volcanoes from the air. Near the Parc Vulcania you will find the Volcan de Lemptégy; descend into a volcano, on foot or by train.
