The Auvergne is located in the south-central of France and is without a doubt one of the most beautiful areas of this country, with unspoilt nature and clean air! You will be impressed by the beautiful flora and fauna, the volcanoes, the lakes, the mountains and the forests. With its many natural sources (including those of Volvic), nearly one hundred volcanoes and more than 20,000 kilometres of water flow, the Auvergne is one of the largest and best preserved natural areas of Europe.
The Parc Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne in the department of Puy-de-Dôme is the largest regional parc of Europe. The Chaines des Puys with the Puy de Dôme volcano as the highest point (1465 m) and the Massif du Sancy are part of this parc. From Saint-Nectaire, these beautiful areas are easy to explore. Saint-Nectaire is located in the Massif du Sancy in the heart of Auvergne. In this area you will find mountains, beautiful (crater)lakes, the nature reserve La Vallée de Chaudefour, but also the beautiful traditional villages such as Besse-en-Chandese, Saint-Saturnin, Saint-Floret .....
The capital of the Puy-de-Dôme is Clermont-Ferrand, located at 30 km north of Saint-Nectaire. In addition to the wonderful nature and the romanesque heritage let’s not forget the culinary specialities of this area. The truffade, the fondue au Saint-Nectaire, the potée Auvergnate, the lentils, the Aligot. Of course, all those goodies will be accompanied with a delicious regional wine, the cote d’Auvergne ... And finally, a cheese plateau with the various regional AOP-cheeses (Saint-Nectaire, Cantal, Salers, Bleu d’Auvergne and Fourme d’Ambert).
The Auvergne is absolutely worth a visit. And where else to stay than at the Villa St Hubert?
